santa cruz, ca

earlier this spring i headed south to santa cruz, california to cover an event and soak up some sun.  i took a short walk down a long pier...and came back with these photos.

portrait of a midwife

ann is a seattle nurse midwife who has delivered hundreds and hundreds of babies in her long and impressive career.  as a retirement gift, the other midwives in her group gave her a portrait session to honor her skilled hands that have helped so many little ones into the world.  i have never done a portrait session where the emphasis was on one particular body part, so this shoot of ann and her hands from last summer was a fun, new challenge for me.  her husband and their sweet, old dog also made it into a few shots.
congratulations on your retirement, ann.  it was an honor to meet and photograph you!

oahu, i adore you!

i was lucky to be able to spend a week on oahu this october.  it is truly a paradise, with miles of perfect deserted beaches and the best warm, sunny weather.  i also love the city of honolulu- it is at the same time modern, and rich with culture and tradition.  i had an amazing, relaxing trip- so relaxed in fact, that i didn't even bring my big camera with me most days!

foodie wedding

this wedding that i photographed with rosemary ragusa was by far the most delicious and fun of the summer.  there were so many personal details that the couple incorporated into their day- the homemade jam jars that served as seating assignments,  the pops of hot pink throughout the day, the pigs on the tables,  the local performers, the dogs that were guests, and the amazing food and drink...all on the rooftop of the ecotrust building.
wow!  this was one perfect portland wedding!
